Christian body rejects decriminalisation of gay sex

Shillong, July 7 An influential Christian body of the North-East today demanded that the Centre should file a review petition in the apex court against the Delhi High Court's ruling on decriminalising gay sex.

In a letter to the Union Law Minister, the North East India Christian Council (NEICC) has asked the Government of India to file a review petition in the Delhi High Court or an appeal at the apex court challenging the ruling.

The executive committee of the NEICC which met in Shillong has decided not to accept the ruling of the Delhi High Court on Section 377 of IPC, NEICC secretary Rev N S Phawa said.

"Even if the Parliament decides to amend or delete the law, the Council and its members, as per the tenets of Christian teaching, can never accept any change to the existing law," he said.
