Pune: With a schoolgirl from Pune becoming the sixth victim of the deadly swine flu on early Tuesday in Maharashtra, the toll of A(H1N1) victims rose to eight in India.
According to an official, the victim, 13-year-old Sruti Gavde, succumbed to the virus early Tuesday. She died in the Sassoon Hospital here, barely hours after a pharmacist Sanjay Tilekar died there last night, the official from the State Swine Flu Control Room said.
Shruti was a student of AD High School in Pune. She had tested positive last Saturday and had been admitted to Sassoon Hospital last Sunday in a critical condition. She died around 1.30 am Tuesday, according to the official.
So far, a total of 333 people have been affected by the virus all over the state, with Pune notching 221, Mumbai (81), and Satara (31).
Pune also tops the list of casualties with five deaths so far followed by one death each in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chennai.
