Symantec, the global leader in providing security, storage and system management solutions, today launched its new reputation based technology codenamed 'Quorum' to fight against 'malwares' in its attempt to curb cyber crime.
Briefing newsmen here, Symantec Vice-President Consumer Business (Asia Pacific and Japan) David Freer said the new products Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton AntiVirus 2010 would attain unmatched detection of new malware and advance far beyond traditional signature and behaviour based detection. Quorum tracked files and applications and dozens of their attributes which were then combined using complex algorithms to determine a reputation. As a file was distributed across the internet these attributes change. Quorum updates the reputation of the file, he informed. Quorum gave its consumers the power to 'deny'digital dangers and 'allow' a safe online experience, he added saying that cyber crime had surpassed illegal drug trafficking as a criminal money maker and every three seconds an identity was stolen. Replying to queries, he said Norton 2010 products had maintained an eye on performance. The Norton Insight family of technologies in the products used extensive online intelligence systems to proactively protect the PC and keep users informed of the security and performance impact of files and applications that they encounter in their everyday online experience, he said.
