MYSORE: The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) must come out of the NGO mindset and execute its plans of community development with passion and zeal, said former DGP of Nagaland and Meghalaya Chamanlal on Saturday.
Talking at a function organized to review SVYM, he said nobody will doubt integrity and credentials of the SVYM which is serving the community with utmost zeal and commitment, but it should introspect itself on the impact of the measures taken by it. He said the SVYM should have accountability towards the community and not the donors.
"Donors are great people who have no qualms in lending financial assistance to SVYM, but it should know what it is doing for the people," he said.
Chamanlal, who is associated with various NGOs and organizations like SVYM, said SVYM should strive to train leaders and not managers. Managers have no commitment for the society or community and only worried about the tasks while the leaders strive to work for the society and community, he said. Asking the SVYM to keep in mind Swami Vivekananda and his teachings, he said the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and Gandhiji should be the guiding spirit for them.
SVYM is a registered non-profit non-government development organization started in 1984 by a group of doctors inspired by the teachings and ideals of Swami Vivekanananda. It is working in the sectors of health, education, community, development services, training, research, advocacy and consultancy services. Today, the organization has 60 projects all over Karnataka with a direct impact on the life of more than 6 million people.
