India’s trade unions strike against food price hikes

In India an estimated 40 million people are taking part in a 24-hour nationwide strike called by the country's trade unions.
Protesting against food price hikes, the walkout has caused major disruption to air and road transport and shuttered offices, schools and shops in West Bangal, Kerala, Manipur, Maharashtra and several other states. 
 According to official statistics, prices on food and other staples in the country have jumped by more than 10 percent in the past month alone
