"Earth Hour is a global event and as a run up, there are various activities planned across India. A similar event is planned in Mumbai next week. A panel discussion of corporates on energy conservation will be held in Bangalore and a college activation programme is planned in Shimla," Khosla said.
Ravi Singh, secretary general and CEO of WWF-India, said: "It was heartening to see young and old Delhiites on the cycle with such enthusiasm and commitment. Cycling for commuting is a good sign of awareness in moving towards a sustainable way of life."
India joined the Earth Hour campaign in 2009 with 56 cities participating. By 2010 it grew to include individuals and businesses across 125 cities coming together with the rest of the world to observe the event.
