Films Division documentary claims Jesus died in Kashmir
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 3 : A documentary produced by the Films Division of India speculates that the famous Rozabal Shrine of Srinagar contains the tomb of Jesus Christ.Mr Yashendra Prasad, director of the hour-long film which was screened at the 4th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, also claims he has found evidence that Jesus played a role in the birth of Mahayana Buddhism.
“My film is a historical exploration of the hypotheses that Jesus spent his last days in Kashmir,” said Mr Prasad. “There are many ancient Pali, Sanskrit and Arabic texts and inscriptions that hint that the prophet Yuza Asaf buried in the tomb is none other than Jesus. It is perhaps the most mysterious place in the whole world.”
The director said that the tomb was built according to Jewish traditions and not Islamic traditions.
The film claims that Jesus may not have died during the crucifixion but escaped and travelled from Palestine to India.
“I have seen texts that refer to this prophet who was much revered in Kashmir,” said the director. “He interacted with Vedic and Buddhist scholars and kings including Gopananda, Shalivahan and the Great Kanishka, who issues a coin in his honour.”
According to Mr Prasad, some inscriptions hint that Jesus had also played a major role in the Fourth Buddhist Council convened by Kanishka which saw the birth of Mahayana tradition.
“We are just exploring a hypotheses in the film, but its message is that the great prophets did not try to divide society but unite it,” said Mr Prasad.
