Narendra Modi's Gujarat model goes national, central teams visit the state

Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Gujarat model is going national. Teams from many central departments are visiting Gujarat on study tours.

From a state with power deficit, Gujarat is now one with surplus power. Taking a cue from how the state government managed this feat, a high powered team from the Union Power Ministry recently visited the state to find out how the Gujarat Electricity Board went from being a Rs 2,500 crore loss making enterprise to one that makes Rs 500 crore profit annually.

"They have demonstrated to India and the world, what a department that is run honestly and efficiently and for the people, can do for the power situation," said Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

Not just in power, the Modi government is pulling all stops to replicate several of Gujarat's successful projects. A Delhi Police team is visiting Surat to study its CCTV security project, which was set up as a private-public partnership.
In Surat, the police have managed to install high definition cameras at all prominent public places. They also tied up with the RTO and banks to directly send 'challans' to violators by monitoring traffic.
A team of officials also recently visited the ambitious Sabarmati Riverfront Development project with the intent to replicate it on the River Yamuna. The Sabarmati Riverfront Project is perhaps the best tribute given to Mahatma Gandhi. He was a champion of cleanliness," Goyal said.
