New Delhi: In a grim reminder of the Dhaula Kuan gangrape of a DU student in a moving car in 2005, a Gurgaon call centre employee hailing from the Northeast was abducted at gunpoint by five persons in a goods vehicle, raped and then dumped on the roadside in an unconscious state. A friend who was with her at the time she was kidnapped informed the police, who registered a case of kidnapping and started searching for the woman.
According to the police, the woman was picked up just 100 metres away from her house at 1.10 am on Wednesday after her office car dropped her on Ring Road. The South Delhi police have registered a case, but are clueless about the accused.
The girl was abducted around the same place and in the same manner as the 20-year-old DU student from Mizoram, who was pulled inside a Santro car in May 2005 and then gangraped for several hours before being dumped near a gurdwara in Dhaula Kuan. Five years later, the area is still not safe for girls working in graveyard shifts.
The latest incident happened around 1.10 am, when the 30-year-old victim was dropped on Ring Road after work. She works at a Gurgaon call centre and returns home around the same time every night. She lives in a rented accommodation in Mochi village near Moti Bagh, about 100 metres away from where she was dropped.
Officials said Wednesday was the first time her cab driver had dropped her on Ring Road. "Otherwise he used to drop her outside the house everyday. He was in a hurry and dropped her on the Ring Road today," said an officer. "As she was walking towards home, five men pulled her into a mini-truck and drove on the Ring Road towards Northwest Delhi," said the officer, adding that the cab driver is also being questioned.
"The accused took turns raping her. Around 2.30 am, they dumped the unconscious woman on the roadside in Mangolpuri. She is in a state of shock," said the officer, adding that a medical examination has confirmed rape.
A case has been registered at the Dhaula Kuan police station and several teams have been formed to trace the accused. "The woman could not see the faces of the accused persons properly. We are looking for the vehicle to trace them," said an officer. The girl's family has been informed and she has been sent for counseling.
Confirming the incident, DCP (South) H G S Dhaliwal said, "We are looking for the accused persons".
On November 3, a 19-year-old girl was abducted and raped as she was waiting for her office cab near her home in East Delhi's Mandawali locality.
