As many as 25 more deaths caused by influenza A (H1N1) have been reported from India, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in the country so far to 748, an official statement said here today.
Six of the deaths -- 3 in Maharashtra and 1 each in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan -- were reported during the day today.
Besides, reports of 19 deaths that occurred earlier -- 8 in Delhi, 4 in Maharashtra, 2 each in Punjab and Andhra Pradesh and 1 each in Rajasthan, Kerala and Haryana -- were conveyed by the state authorities concerned to the Union Health Ministry today, the statement said.
The statement also clarified that the total number of deaths so far in Goa was five and not seven as reported yesterday.
Of the total H1N1 deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra now accounts for 247, while 123 lives have been lost in Karnataka, 102 in Rajasthan, 60 in Gujarat, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 47 in Delhi, 30 in Kerala, 24 in Haryana, 14 in Punjab, 10 in Uttarakhand, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 each in Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, 3 each in Uttar Pradesh and Orissa, 2 in Chhattisgarh and 1 each in Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Mizoram.
Meanwhile, 272 fresh cases of swine flu were reported from different parts of India today, including 153 in Delhi, 32 in Uttar Pradesh, 24 in Haryana, 23 in Maharashtra, 21 in Rajasthan, 11 in Gujarat, 4 in Karnataka, 3 in Tamil Nadu, and 1 in Punjab.
With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 22,496, the statement added.
